TUR W: Bošković outscores Egonu as Eczacıbaşı succeed in beating VakıfBank after 2 years

by WoV

In a highly anticipated one-on-one duel between Tijana Bošković and Paola Egonu in Round 5 of the 2022-23 Turkish Women’s Volleyball Championship, the former was more notable on the court than the Italian: Eczacıbaşı Dynavit beat VakıfBank.

The eagerly-awaited Istanbul derby valid for the fifth round of the 2022–23 Misli.com Sultanlar Ligi between Eczacıbaşı and VakıfBank ended 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-20) for the former. The challenge proposed a confrontation between Bošković and Egonu, the two best opposite hitters and, probably, the best players in the world. On this occasion, the Serbian player, the MVP of the last FIVB World Championship, was more prolific, scoring 22 points (4 aces), against only 18 for the Italian star and MVP of the last CEV EuroVolley.

For the ’Tigers’, for whom Hande Baladın had 71% attack (12/17), this was their fifth consecutive victory, which is worth maintaining the perfect record in the competition along with Galatasaray HDI Sigorta (3-0 vs İlbank today). VakıfBank, which had Zehra Güneş making 4 blocks in the big derby, have a balance of four victories and one defeat, just like Türk Hava Yolları (3-0 vs Çukurova Belediye ADS). The current world and European club champions fell before Eczacıbaşı for the first time in two years.
