Pools for EuroVolleys 2023 drawn in Naples, Italy

The four pools for each gender of the CEV Volleyball European Championship 2023 were drawn today in Italy.

The draw for the pools for the men’s and women’s EuroVolley 2023 was held today in Naples, Italy. The women’s event will take place from August 15 to September 3 in Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Estonia, while men’s is scheduled from August 28 to September 16 in Italy, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, and Israel. The 24 participating national teams were divided into 4 groups of 6 teams for the first phase for each gender. Both opening matches of the European Championship will take place in Italy: Verona for women and Rome for men.

This is the composition of the women’s groups:

Pool A: Belgium, Slovenia, Serbia, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary.

Pool B: Italy,  Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Switzerland. 

Pool C: Germany, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Czech Republic, Sweden, Greece.

Pool D: Estonia, Finland, Holland, France, Slovakia, Spain.

The pools will be played with the round-robin formula, at the end of which the first four classified in each group (this applies to both men and women) will access the Round of 16 and will face each other according to the following scheme.

Round of 16 (Brussels, Belgium):

A1 vs C4

A2 vs C3

A3 vs C2

A4 vs C1

Round of 16 (Florence, Italy):

B1 vs D4

B2 vs D3

B3 vs D2

B4 vs D1

In the quarter-finals (in Brussels and Florence) the winning teams that played in the Round of 16 in the same country will face each other. This is the crossing pattern:

Win B1 vs D4 – Win B3 vs D2

Win B4 vs D1 – Win B2 vs D3

The semi-finals and finals will be played in Brussels.

This is the composition of the men’s groups:

Pool A: Italy,  Switzerland, Serbia, Germany, Belgium, Estonia,

Pool B: Bulgaria, Finland, Slovenia, Ukraine, Croatia, Spain.  

Pool C: North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Holland, Czech Republic, Denmark. 

Pool D: Israel, Romania, France, Turkey, Portugal, Greece.

A Round of 16 will be formed according to the following scheme.

Round of 16 (Bari, Italy):

A1 vs C4

A2 vs C3

A3 vs C2

A4 vs C1

Round of 16 (Varna, Bulgaria):

B1 vs D4

B2 vs D3

B3 vs D2

B4 vs D1

Win B1 vs D4 – Win B3 vs D2

Win B4 vs D1 – Win B2 vs D3

The semi-finals and finals will be played in Bologna, Italy.
