In the latest round of the Turkish Vodafone Sultanlar Ligi, VakıfBank secured their tenth consecutive victory, defeating Türk Hava Yolları (THY) with a score of 3-1. This win cements their position as the undefeated leaders of the league.
VakıfBank claimed the first set 25-23 in a tightly contested game. Despite a strong start in the second set, THY managed to keep up the pace, but VakıfBank eventually prevailed with a 27-25 win, taking a 2-0 lead. THY claimed the third set 25-17, but VakıfBank sealed the match with a 25-23 win in the final set.
Ali Frantti led the scoring for VakıfBank with 16 points, supported by Jordan Thompson’s 15, Gabi’s 11, and Zehra Güneş’s 8 points. Anthí Vasilantonáki led THY with 24 points, while Kiera Van Ryk contributed significantly by scoring 20 points.
Coach Giovanni Guidetti praised the team’s performance in the final set, attributing the victory to their minimal errors. Jordan Thompson, the American opposite, expressed pride in the team’s relentless spirit throughout the challenging match.
