In a long-anticipated decision, the Turkish Volleyball Federation has officially appointed Slobodan Kovač as the new head coach of the Turkish men’s national team. The announcement was made today in Istanbul, ending days of speculation over who would lead the team into its next chapter.
Although early reports suggested that Bulgarian coach Radostin Stoychev was a likely candidate, the Federation ultimately turned to the seasoned Serbian expert, citing his extensive international resume and proven leadership.
Kovač brings more than 15 years of coaching experience to the role. Since launching his coaching career in 2008, he has guided several elite club teams and national squads. His achievements include two Turkish League titles, two Turkish Cups, a Challenge Cup, and domestic league success in Serbia. Internationally, he’s led the national teams of Iran, Slovenia, and Serbia, winning a European Championship with the latter.
As a former athlete, Kovač’s legacy is equally impressive. He competed in two Olympic Games, earning a bronze medal in Atlanta in 1996 and a gold medal in Sydney in 2000 with the Yugoslavian national team.
