Lorenzo Bernardi’s side got a grip and beat İnegöl Belediyespor on road 3-1 (26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21) in the final round of regular season. And it did it even without the Pole Michał Kubiak while Italian Dragan Travica was playing as a substitute. Resul Tekeli stood out with 17 points. Halkbank finished this stage as leaders.
Tremendous drama was seen in Istanbul where the hosts İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi suffered a ’winning’ defeat against Arkas Spor 3-2 (31-29, 23-25, 14-25, 25-19, 15-9). It was the only otcome that suited both teams to qualify for playoff round (Final 4)! Thus, Ziraat Bankası are eliminated from next stage as fifth despite straight-set win over Bornova Anadolu Lisesi (BAL Spor). Brazilian Maurício Borges and Gökhan Gökgöz topped Arkas’ scorers with 19 points each while American William Price had 22 in İstanbul BBSK.
Fenerbahçe downed great Istanbul rivals Galatasaray HDI Sigorta in four sets with 21 points from Metin Toy and claimed second place in the standings.
