In the first set of the match, the heat among the fans turned up. Verbal attacks erupted into a brawl between supporters of the two teams. It was difficult to quiet the riot events. Flammable and explosive substances were thrown at Fenerbahce Grundig players. Practice nets were damaged.
In the second set of the match cigarette lighters were thrown. The referee continued the match after a break.
In the third set was also some rioting. After a 10-minute break, the match was resumed.
Fenerbahce player Kayhan Kemal end gave a statement: “I would like to congratulate both Galatasaray and Fenerbahce supporters. Things that we did not want happened, but the match was finished nicely. It’s great to start the season with this win. As for the team, I congratulate everyone. We exhibited a very nice game. Hopefully, we will continue where we left off.”
Fenerbahce captain Arslan Eksi: “I really think it was an excellent game se today. I started the season with an injury. I missed the complete preparation period for this season. Ivan was injured for three weeks, Ibrahim also. We tried to do the best we could. We started well. I hope we’ll continue like this until the end of the season. Big Fenerbahce supporters thank you.”
