Southern California defeated BYU in four sets on Friday night to earn a trip to the national quarterfinals. Set scores were 32-30, 25-13, 25-21, and 25-16. Samantha Bricio led the Women of Troy with 22 kills on the day while Alicia Ogoms hit a blistering .615. Natalie Hagglund led USC with 22 digs. BYU’s Alexa Gray led all players with 23 kills. Kathryn Lecheminant hit at .524 and Clara Parker earned 17 kills.
Third-ranked Stanford knocked out No. 10 Minnesota 28-26, 25-23, 25-22 on Friday at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington, Ky., to move on to the quarterfinals. The Cardinal moves to 27-5 overall, while the Golden Gophers finish their season 29-7. Stanford will face No. 2 seed Penn State in the regional final on Saturday. The Cardinal and Nittany Lions will square off at 4 p.m. Stanford and Penn State are meeting in the quarterfinals for the first time.
For the first time since 2005, Wisconsin advanced to play in an NCAA regional final. The 12th-seeded Badgers continue on with a 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-15 win against Florida State on Friday night at the State Farm Center. Wisconsin (26-9) will advance to the regional final and play Purdue in the quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Top-seeded Texas overcame a rare postseason deficit to advance to its eighth consecutive NCAA regional final with 3-1 victory against American on Friday in a regional semifinal match at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. With the win, Texas advances to Saturday’s NCAA regional final at 9 p.m. Texas will play the winner of Friday’s second semifinal between No. 8 Nebraska and No. 9 San Diego.
