Paris 2024 W: China Tops Pool A; U.S. and Serbia also Advance to Quarterfinals

In a decisive Pool A match at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the U.S. women’s volleyball team swept France 3-0 (29-27, 29-27, 25-20) to secure their quarterfinal spot. The Americans, needing only a single set to advance, dominated with standout performances from Annie Drews (15 points), Chiaka Ogbogu (13 points), Kathryn Plummer, and Haleigh Washington (11 points each). France’s Halimatou Bah led with 14 points, but the team ended their campaign without a win.

China, emerging victorious from a competitive Pool A, defeated Serbia 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 29-27) to top the group. Li Yingying led with 28 points, supported by Gong Xiangyu (17) and Wang Yuanyuan (11). Serbia’s Tijana Bošković scored a match-high 39 points, the second-best individual performance of the Games. Despite this, Serbia and the U.S. both advance to the quarterfinals along with China, while France is eliminated.
