Russia vs. USA… Every single volleyball fan would expect a game to remember, a battle of titans and probably all five sets… But not today. USA are at this moment a lot, lot better than their arch rivals, and they confirmed that on the game in Kaliningrad.

USA swept away Russia on the road in straight sets and remained at the top of the Pool B. On the other side, home side continued with terrible results in the World League 2015 and they now have 9 defeats and not a single win! Believe it or not, but Russia is very close to suffer a relegation from the World League Group 1!!!

Pool B: USA 7-2 (20 points), Polamd 6-2 (16 points), Iran 4-4 (13 points), Russia 0-9 (2 points).

Another heartbreak for my favorite team. Russia is not a team; it’s a bunch of strong individual players. The US was just playing tricks with them.

Number one problem is the setting. Neither Kolodinsky nor Antipkin could match the intelligence of Grankin. They may have the best intentions in setting to their hitters but nothing works. It’s often very easy to read and thus easily blocked by the opponents.

Their serving is horrendous. Savin, Moroz, Antipkin and the rest are unreliable servers. Often, it’s only Aschev and Volvich who could serve very well.

Russia’s net and floor defense is sorely lacking. And so is their reception.

I think Russia needs to change the coach and go back to Alekno. Alekno has a full understanding of the individual player’s strengths and weaknesses. He could field in Zhigalov or Poletaev as substitute outside hitter to Mikhaylov and Kovalev as a substitute setter to Grankin.

The Number one problem with Russia is the ‘COACH’ , THEY should bring back Alekno, I wonder if Russia qualify for Olympics with this way of playing
