An 18-year-old Italian outside hitter Davide Gardini has joined the BYU volleyball programme for the upcoming season. He is the son of a legendary Italian National Team player Andrea Gardini (a three-time world champion), currently the head coach of the defending champions of Poland ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle.
Davide came to the Cougars from Club Italia Crai Roma, a club in his home country that is projected to gather some of the most talented players in Italy.
This summer, Davide won the silver medal with an Italian National Team in the CEV U19 European Championship in Hungary and Slovakia and earned a spot in the tournament’s lineup.
Beside Davide Gardini, the BYU has signed another recruit – an outside hitter Tim Baldwin from Oak Park High School, California.
The Cougars volleyball programme is considered highly competitive in the NCAA, having some big names of an American Men’s volleyball playing there such as Taylor Sander, Russell Holmes and the first-ever U.S. NT libero Richard Lambourne.
