The match was preceded by a small celebration of the birthday of two players included in the roster of the teams starring tonight in Hamburg, Patricija Napotnik and Mareike Hindriksen, who both got flowers from the local organizers. In the end the setter of Aurubis, Hindriksen, could get another special gift, i.e. a well deserved victory in straight sets. The hosts initially felt the emotion associated with their debut in the European Cups as they trailed 10:11, but after that the players around head coach Jean-Pierre Staelens used their physical and technical skills to cruise past their opponents, with the first set cashed by Ciara Michel with the score of 25-14.
The home side delighted the fans in attendance at “CU Arena” and Michel once more pocketed the last point of the second set for yet another 25-14. Aurubis left no chance to their opponents from Slovenia and another 22 minutes were needed to finish off also the third set with the score of 25-22. After this 3:0 win, HAMBURG waits now for the return match next week in Slovenia to possibly make it to the next round of the competition.
