During the first set, Resovia seemed to be pretty confident on its strength and was very encouraged by the group of Polish fans that had come to Zalau for the event, being a few points in front of ZALAU at the first and second technical time-out (8:6, 16:12). However, the Romanians came back in the battle at the end of the set (24:21, 24:24), putting a lot of pressure on Resovia’s defense through some beautiful attacks by Serban Pascan and Silmar de Almeida. Asseco Resovia RZESZOW pointed to winning the set having a margin of two (26-24).
The second set was dominated by the team from ZALAU, that showed and excellent concentration and went up by three points at the first technical time-out (5:8). Resovia guessed the weak points of Remat and with a few excellent attacks by Nikola Kovacevic and a perfect reception got closer to Remat before the second technical time-out (14:14). The fate of the set was decided at the end, in a battle of nerves, with both teams trying to stay ahead (21:21, 24:23, and 25:24). The set ended similarly as the previous one, the Polish team showing a strong will to win at the end.
Resovia was very determined to achieve an early victory and the last set began forcefully, in spite of a very strong resistance from the opposite side. The Polish kept a constant distance from Remat (7:5, 13:11, and 20:18) and won the set even though the players from Remat fought bravely for their fans.
The Polish head coach of Remat, Mariusz Sordyl, stated after the match: “I am very happy that we played well. It was definitely a beautiful match and I want to thank our players for the responsible way they played”.
As well, Robinson Dvoranen, the captain of Remat, had the same opinion about the game, admitting that “the match from Zalau was different from the one we played in Rzeszow. With our reception and attacks we managed to put pressure on the Polish team”.
The head coach of Asseco Resovia RZESZOW, Andrzej Kowal, was impressed by the evolution of the Romanian team, and said: “It was a difficult match for us, taking into consideration our previous confrontation. We came here to win and to secure our second place in Pool G. Remat played well today even though they used a different libero”.
The captain of Resovia, Aleh Akhrem, concluded that “our opponents put us in some difficulties, as they had good serves and some nice attacks and blocks. It was a tough game for us, so the score of 3-0 doesn’t really show the great level of our confrontation”.
