The Brazilian media noticed a two-time Olympic champion Thaísa Menezes at the Mineirinho Arena during Game 1 of the Brazilian Women’s Volleyball Championship playoff finals yesterday. And there was a good reason for this!

Thaísa came to Mineirinho Arena to cheer for her new club Itambé Minas against Dentil/Praia Clube yesterday! The middle blocker revealed for Globo Esporte that she will defend the colors of a club in which she started her professional career (2002-2005) in the next season.

“I’m here, I’m rooting for my friends, but I prefer the team to make the announcement, which is going to be more cool,” Thaísa said.

The last season, she competed for Hinode Barueri who gave her a chance to fully recover from a terrible knee injury that she sustained two years ago. According to Bruno Voloch from Estadão Esportes, Thaísa rejected the offer from Japan for the 2019/20, wanting to play the pre-Olympic season in her home country. Voloch added that Minas will keep a present starting middle blocker duo Mara Leão and Caroline Gattaz “Carol Gattaz” for the next season regardless of hiring Thaísa.

Recall that a couple of days ago, Thaísa made a surprising decision to retire from Brazil national team, emphasizing in a statement for Globo Esporte that she has cried each day ever since but needed to respect her body knowing that she reached her limits trying to get back to playing at a high level this season.
