Fenerbahçe is making waves in the volleyball community. Reports from Serbian sports website Meridian Sport reveal that French superstar Earvin Ngapeth and former Serbian national team coach Slobodan Kovač are set to join the club.
Kovač, renowned for guiding Serbia to European Championship gold in 2019 and leading Halkbank to both the Championship and Cup titles in the 2023/24 season, is set to take over as head coach of Fenerbahçe’s men’s team. His contract reportedly spans a season and a half, but that’s not the end of the story. Joining him is Earvin Ngapeth, the MVP of the Olympic Games, who has also signed for the same duration.
Fenerbahçe’s decision follows a challenging period for the team, including a crushing Champions League defeat and an unexpected loss in the domestic league. The club’s management acted swiftly, pinning their hopes on this proven duo to reignite their winning momentum.
This isn’t Kovač and Ngapeth’s first collaboration—their previous stint with Turkey’s Halkbank saw them secure a domestic double. Now, Fenerbahçe is banking on their synergy to replicate that success and bring the Istanbul powerhouse back to glory.
