The Italian A1 League’s Uyba Volley Busto Arsizio recently announced that the Women’s Volleyball A League had convened to deliberate various agenda items, including the contentious topic of permitting a dual role for the Italian national team’s coach. The meeting concluded with a majority of A1 and A2 series clubs endorsing the existing regulations, which allow for such a dual capacity.
Despite this consensus within the Women’s Volleyball A League, the decision now rests with the Italian Volleyball Federation (Fipav), which is expected to engage in talks with UYBA soon to reach a mutual agreement. This overwhelming vote injects a powerful and authoritative voice into the debate, which is of particular relevance to UYBA and their coach Julio Velasco.
Giuseppe Pirola, President of UYBA Volley, expressed satisfaction with the vote, seeing it as a foundational step towards persuading the Federation to consider a matter crucial to UYBA Volley. Pirola highlighted the investment in a distinguished coach like Velasco, who has the potential to lead the national team, underscoring the loss it would represent if he were not allowed to complete even a single regular season. Pirola’s remarks reflect a sentiment of pride and reassurance in belonging to an alliance that stands by its members during challenging times.
Mauro Fabris, the President of the Lega Pallavolo Serie A Femminile (LVF), commented on the objective of fostering a triumphant National team, emphasizing that the progress of top-tier volleyball partly hinges on the National team’s performance. He also referenced Club Italia, an innovative concept from the National Federation designed to nurture young talent within a competitive league. The LVF remains committed to backing the National teams wholeheartedly. Fabris also recognized the recent appointment of Velasco as the senior National team coach by FIPAV and affirmed the League Assembly’s stance on maintaining current policies that permit a dual role for coaches.
