Father and son Travica, Ljubomir and Dragan, were forced to leave Iran because of the fact Shahrdari Urmia did not fulfill financial obligations towards them since they came, in August.

In an exclusive interview for our website, Ljubomir Travica, former head coach of the National Team of Serbia and Montenegro, and also many famous clubs like Italian LPR Piacenza and Polish Resovia Rzeszów, explained what happened in the last several months during which he and Dragan were in Urmia.

What is the main reason for your and Dragan’s departure from Iran?

„The main reason is that our contract was not respected in a single part. From the very beginning (August 13, 2016) there were only promises, so in these conditions it was not possible to work the way we supposed to. Nevertheless, we acted as professionals each day, in and out of training.“

Have you had some inconveniences in Iran?

„There was no inconvenience of any kind, in fact, fans came on the training every day and supported our work.“

Conflicts and verbal duels are frequent at the matches in Iran. How do you look at it since this is volleyball in question?

„Yes, it is true. It is definitely not a good thing for volleyball. Me and Dragan certainly have a lot of experience and we can confirm that all these verbal duels should not and must not be on the volleyball courts.“

What do you think of Iranian league?

„League level is very high and which is important, it is very popular in the whole country.“

What are the conditions there in relation to Europe?

„A small number of teams have good conditions and as for the organization, they are far away of the European level.“

What are your plans now and did you receive some offers?

„Yes, there are offers. Dragan received a lot more, but he wants to play only in high-level teams. For now, we train individually.“

Recall that Ljubomir Travica wrote a letter to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in regard to this issue.
