A 54-year-old Méndez, who started to work with Cruzeiro in 2009, will coach the team for the 11th season as he renewed the contract until 2021. The Argentinean expert, who has one of the longest-running jobs in the professional volleyball worldwide, won all major titles with Cruzeiro, such as the FIVB Club World Championship three times, Brazilian Championship and South American Championship six times each, Brazilian Cup four times, Brazilian Super Cup three times and many more. In total – 34 trophies!

Cruzeiro also contracted Canada national team captain John Gordon Perrin. A 29-year-old outside hitter came to the club after a season with Belogorie Belgorod in Russia. Perrin was a one-time Olympian (2016 Rio de Janeiro) and a two-time Turkish Championship winner (Arkas Spor).

In addition to Perrin, Cruzeiro brought in a 39-year-old setter Rodrigo Leme “Rodriguinho” from Vôlei UM Itapetininga and confirmed a stay of seven players from the 2018/19 roster: Isac Santos, Evandro Guerra, Filipe Ferraz, Rodrigo Leão “Rodriguinho”, Fernando Kreling “Cachopa”, Luan Weber and Lucas Bauer.

After nine years, Cruzeiro parted ways with libero Sérgio Nogueira “Serginho”. Since he came to the Contagem team practically at the same time as Méndez, a 40-year-old player won the exact number of trophies with Cruzeiro as his head coach – 34. The name of a new club of Serginho is still unknown.

Earlier, Cruzeiro said goodbye to a foreign duo Sander – Le Roux.
