This boy might be a player to shine in the world Volleyball sky in years to come…

Maicon dos Santos França is only 15 years old but is 2.12m tall, which is an unusual height for senior Volleyball let alone for his age group! His stature and way of playing at school tournaments did not go unnoticed by Brazilian Volleyball scouts. Fluminense F.C. won the battle for the prospect player and he joined their youth team, playing as a middle blocker and opposite hitter.

Maicon is summoned to prepare with Brazil national team for the upcoming FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship, on August 21-30, and will likely get on the final list for the tournament in Tunisia. Given that he is only 15 years old, he will grow a few more centimeters for sure. Only a year ago, he was 2.08m tall…

WC 2019 W: Brazil beat weakened team of Serbia in thriller, China win Asian derby

Because the VNL consists of teams that have been invited by the FIVB, rather than have truly qualified for it based on competitive criteria. These teams (e.g. Belgium & Slovenia with the men) would unjustifiedly lose a lot of points on the ranking because they didn't pay the FIVB enough to participate. on the other hand weak teams like South Korea would see their ranking go up just purely by participating.

In its current format the VNL is nothing but a worthless demonstration tournament of friendly games... :-(

The results of the VNLs don't give the participating national teams any points for the FIVB rankings. Does anybody or WorldofVolley has any idea, why? Reply
