Croatia settled at the No.2 in Pool C (Budapest) after they defeated the home side of Hungary in straight sets on Day 6 and left them hanging on ahead of the last day of the Preliminaries. In order to advance to the eighth-finals, Hungary will have to beat pool leaders, the Netherlands, in the last round and to hope that Azerbaijan will defeat Romania.
Croatia vs. Hungary encounter staged the most intense set in the tournament so far, the third set, which lasted for 41 minutes and in which a total of 68 points was scored: 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 35-33).
Samanta Fabris was unstoppable for Croatia with 25 points, while Božana Butigan and Karla Klarić set up 4 kill blocks apiece. Gréta Szakmáry scored 17 points for Hungary.
In the other match in this pool on Day 6, Azerbaijan barely avoided an upset against the last-placed Estonia mostly thanks to Polina Rahimova, who tallied 27 points (4 aces). Olena Hasanova and Yelyzaveta Samadova made 6 kill blocks apiece. Kertu Laak scored 24 points for Estonia, while Liis Kullerkann made 6 kill blocks.
