Italy scored the victory No.9 in the 2019 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League.

On Day 2 of the tournament, Italy beat resilient South Korea by a 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 25-13) at home in Perugia, in Pool 13, to claim the lead in the Preliminary Round standings with a 9-2 record, which is the same number of victories as Turkey and China have, but with most points collected compared to them (28).

Paola Egonu highlighted the “Azzurrine” with 27 points, while Anna Danesi dominated in the block (5). Kim Yeon-Koung scored 16 for South Korea who suffered their seventh successive defeat (1-10).

Russia national team stayed on a winning path in the tournament, giving their contribution in celebrating the nation’s important holiday, Russia Day (commemorates establishing the sovereignty of Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union).

Russia, who interrupted their longest losing streak in a single world-level tournament by beating South Korea yesterday, swept the national team with the worst 2019 VNL campaign, Bulgaria (0-11!), by a 3-0 in Pool 13. In the same time, the “Zbornaya” (3-8) kept the perfect record in mutual encounters against Bulgaria at major world level tournaments (10-0).

Tatiana Iurinskaia topped Russia’s scorers with 16 points. Silvana Chausheva noted 11 for Bulgaria while Mira Todorova set up 4 kill blocks.

RUS W: Karpol enters Guinness World Records!

Watching Nikolay Karpol and Yevgeni Trefilov (handball, head coach of the Russia women's national team) during the timeouts always made me feel sorry for these girls and was amusing at the same time. They both created the stereotypical image of a typical Russian coach – a big guy, always unsatisfied and yelling at everyone :) Still they both achieved a lot and it cannot be denied. Reply
