Bergamo decided to entrust the coaching guidance of the team in the 2019/20 season to the country’s famous expert Marcello Abbondanza, who replaced Matteo Bertini.

Abbondanza, the head coach of the Polish giants Chemik Police last season, came to Bergamo with a rich list of trophies. In fact, a 48-year-old expert returned to the club of its beginnings as he acted there as an assistant coach between 1998 and 2000.

Abbondanza has four national titles on his account – two in Turkey (Fenerbahçe Opet), one in Azerbaijan (Rabitə Bakı) and one in Poland (Chemik Police), two titles in the CEV Cup (Volley Pesaro and Fenerbahçe Opet), five national cups between Italy, Turkey and Poland, and with two particular records set: in the 2017/18 season, Abbondanza set the record of nine consecutive championship finals in four different leagues, a series that began in the 2009/10 season in Italy and continued in the following years in Azerbaijan, Turkey and Poland. In 2016, he competed for his third CEV Champions League final four reached with three different teams.
