The video of the incident from the 2019 Philippine Premier Volleyball League match between the BaliPure Purest Water Defenders and the Creamline Cool Smashers went around the world and everyone was appalled with its content...

The Montenegrin player Danijela Džaković slammed on purpose her teammate from BaliPure, Jewelle Bermillo, during a rally and video went viral. The Philippine Premier League came into the spotlight for a bad reason. This forced BaliPure to issue a note in which they expressed their sincerest apologies to the fans and the league for the incident that transpired during the match that was played three days ago, begging their pardon for any inconvenience it may have caused.

BaliPure stressed that, unfortunately, there are circumstances that are sometimes beyond one’s control and that one can get carried away with her emotions but, still, there was no excuse for such behavior and it will be sanctioned internally. The Angeles based team criticized media for not reporting that Džaković has been very remorseful immediately right after the incident and sought Bermillo’s forgiveness on the court.

“Unfortunately, what people only see is the act itself of Ms. Džaković on Ms. Bermillo. What was not shown was how Ms. Džaković deeply regretted the incident and the tears she tried to hold back during the game... And what was not seen by people, other than those in the dugout, was that it was Ms. Bermillo who was the first one to approach Ms. Džaković to console her, to tell her that everything was forgiven, and to wipe her tears away,“ BaliPure posted and added that Bermillo and Džaković were probably the closest of friends among the members of the team and that it often happens that people are most critical to the ones they care about the most.

“Not that we condone the actions of Ms. Džaković on Ms. Bermillo, but we are asking everyone’s compassion to forgive her and not judge her as a person because of one moment of weakness,“ the Philippine Premier League club concluded.

FIVB releases COVID-19 guidelines for restart of volleyball activities

At last the guidelines on Covid-19, from a top governing volleyball body.... I appreciate them. It is a progress. Some of recommendations are general, some specific for volleybal. It seems to be the soft legal instrument. Nevertheless they could assist to national VFs… Majority of recommendations are reasonable, some of them should not be a problem to kept, some will need a much bigger effort to be kept, some should be included yet. For this goal, there should be obtained a support (best voluntary) and discipline from athletes, coaches, officials, referees , medical staff, club owners, fans etc - realised what is in a stake… Media will have an important role in that..
For implementing of these measures there should be probably prepared also some Roadmap.. Perhaps it would be a suitable to consider the responsibility for pertinent officials, positions, and how to enforce crucial measures, recommendations, specified for this sport - if the situation would be worsen ....
We can hope , that these epidemiological preventive measures will be only temporary and volleyball will return soon to halls, and fans could see their teams personally.
