Swedish women’s volleyball side Hylte/Halmstad created what was obviously a New Year’s prank by which we got fooled just as many other media across Europe.

On New Year’s Eve, Hylte/Halmstad published the news of hiring a former US National Team member Lauren Gibbemeyer. And, it really surprised many given that a 32-year-old middle blocker agreed to play in the US Pro League that will start in February.

However, we were contacted by the Hylte/Halmstad head coach Pedro Mendes, who explained to us that it was fake news, probably made up to lift the holiday spirit of the fans of his team. So, all in all, Gibbemeyer won’t be playing in Sweden this year but, as she decided earlier, in her home country.
