The 2nd-seed Panasonic Panthers beat no.3 Wolfdogs Nagoya in a single-game playoff semifinal of 2020/21 Japanese Men’s V.League Division 1, held in Funabashi, and advanced to the final for the 4th season in a row.

The vice-champions prevailed in the Golden Set, which was played until one team reaches 25 points, instead of 15 as is the case in most competitions in the world. Furthermore, the V.League introduced another interesting rule for the playoffs in which the better-ranked side has an upper hand of 1 win. So, even though Wolfdogs prevailed with a set count of 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 27-25), they tied the win-loss ratio against the Panthers at 1-1 and prolonged the encounter to the Golden Set, which went in the favor of the latter by a 25-21.

Kunihiro Shimizu top-scored the winning side with 19 points overall. The Pole Bartosz Kurek collected 33 points. Panthers will face top-seed Suntory Sunbirds in the final, tomorrow. As the regular-season winners, the Osaka club secured an automatic ticket to the title decider.
