Despite taking the fifth position in the 2019/20 PlusLiga standings, which gave them the right to compete in European club competitions next season, the Trefl management decided to reject such an opportunity.
Two-time Polish Cup and one-time Polish Super Cup winners received an invitation from the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) to play two European cups – the CEV Cup and the Challenge Cup. The reason for not accepting it is the coronavirus epidemic.
According to the Trefl President, Dariusz Gadomski, the risk of participating in European cups appears on many levels – from countries to which they were about to travel, and some are more severely struck by the epidemic than the others, to the risk of matches being canceled or the obligation to go to the quarantine. The head of Trefl stressed that the matter of finances stands on the way of competing internationally, too.
Recall that Trefl made of the biggest transfer hits in the world this summer – signing Mariusz Wlazły.
