Olympic champions Brazil are hoping that will tomorrow end a six-year drought and climb to the top of the podium at the Arena da Baixada stadium in the FIVB World League 2017.

Brazil - USA semifinals of World League 2017

Brazil-USA

Brazil is the first team who won 20 medals in the FIVB Volleyball World League. Tonight they outplayed USA 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19).

The start of the game was full of hope for the American team. They stayed close to host until 13:12 when Wallace took the play in his hands. The result at the second time-out was 16:12 for Brazil. The USA struggled but hosts ended this set after two set points – 25:20. The last point was the service mistake of Christenson.

At the beginning of the second set, Bruno made few great actions for Wallace and Saatkamp and they led 4:1. But Benjamin Patch scored for 5:4 and with few mistakes of Wallace, USA took the leadership 6:7 and then 9:13. That forced the coach of Brazil to ask for a time-out.

After a long rally, Saatkamp equalized 13:13. From that moment teams played “point by point”. Jendryk stopped Lucarelli’s attack for 15:17 and that was the moment when the USA started very disciplined play. They led 17:22 but Brazil came to 20:22. In the uncertain finish of the set when Brazil equalized 23:23, USA’s players were concentred and ended set with 25:23 after the terrible mistake of Saatkamp.

The third set has belonged to host team. During the whole set, they have dominated in the play from 12:6, 18:13, 22:18 and 25:20 at the end for 2-1.

Although the team of coach Speraw fought to the end, Brazil have shown how much they wanted this finale. After a great fight, the fourth set ended 25:19 for 3-1.
