One week after securing the spot at the Rio Olympics, head coach of Italy, Marco Bonitta, announced the squad for 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix. One big name is missing!

Francesca Piccinini, legendary receiver/outside hitter, was not satisfied with a treatment she had in the national team by the head coach Bonitta during the Tokyo tournament and decided to say goodbye to Italian jersey.

“The Olympic Qualifier in Japan has made me realize which are the coach’s choices. I respect them but I do not agree, they do not correspond to my expectations and what I represent. So, I made a very difficult choice to put an end to this beautiful adventure. Every time I see a game of the national team, I will be their main supporter. The special thrill of representing my country will never fade,” Piccinini wrote on her Instagram profile.

Comparing to the Olympic Qualifiers, Bonitta kept 13 players and summoned five newcomers. Good news for Italy’s fans is that Valentina Diouf is back.

Bonitta’s list:

Setters: Cambi, Malinov and Orro.

Opposites: Centoni, Diouf and Ortolani.

Middle blockers: Chirichella, Danesi, Guiggi and Melandri.

Receivers: Del Core, Egonu, Gennari, Guerra and Sylla.

Liberos: De Gennaro, Sirressi and Spirito.

it’s sad but as a matter of fact her replacement Sylla played wonderfully in that tournament and so di the other outside spiker Del Core , I don’t think Bonitta was wrong overall

H@Hardchoic I agree as much as I respected the Italian receiver I have to say it was time for her to say goodbye in the form she was in recently, she would have not been the best factor for the NT.
