Maine referee lost control of the game. It´s sad because it leaves a taste of helping the host country.

No matter who was right or wrong, it was a horrible outcome. It is very unfortunate that the Thailand team lost the game because they played better…

Dear All the reader,

I would like to ask for your corporation in publish the article everywhere for showing what has happen during the Thailand – Japanese match on 18 May 2016.

Thai team has been robbed and cheated by referee and Japanese technicians. This is what happen.

When any teams want to change players, they need to press in the electronics device. Then Japanese staffs will have to accept the request before it show in referee table. What happen was Thailand try to press it many times and the referee keep saying not show. it s not just once but a 2-3 times during the whole match and especially toward the end of 5th set.

By FIVB rules, it states very clear that if the electronics devices doesnt work. Team can change players base on normal system by holding a sign. This s a rules.

But the referee still keep continues refuse and when we keep protest they end up gave us two red cards toward the end of the set. We need to protest, we dont have any attackers left on the court if we dont change players in.

It is injustice but both the referee and Japanese staff. Truth be told no one can prove if Japanese intentional not accept Thai request so it wont show on referee table. But the question still remain of why the system need to process through Japanese staffs? Why cant the system go through referee table directly? And if this is not done by Japanese side intentionally there is still questions about their technology and the injustice cooperate between referee and Japanese team.

Please make this as head line. We are collecting evidence and as of right now the Volleyball Association in Thailand already approve the team to peruse the justice, we gonna claim this to FIVB and IOC

we will not rest until we get the justice.

We have create petition in with thousand of people already signed to request the investigate

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/please-give-a-legit-explanation-why-team-thailand

thank you for your support to volleyball community and behold the justice in this sport.

Remember when asking for a challenge and making substitutions was easier. Those were the good ol’ days (even though they were literally a few months ago)

The coach called two time outs , question is why didn’t he report the malfunction in there in a very calm way , thus è could put the question to the table and be allowed to use the manual system , instead he chose to protest while playing making his team very nervous.
Plus he got a yellow already , from the video we could see that before the first red the referee called the captain and asked to warn him to ‘stop or else’ he continued , and then he did it again.
Regardless his reasons he’s been warned and got a yellow while being 3 points from victory and had still a 5 points advantage. It’s crazy , if you think the referee is unfair then you absolutely don’t give him any occasion to harm you.

Because it was NOT FAIR, it was not unusual that the Thai coach objected to the referees. He was meant to be there to coach and help the national team of Thailand. When something didn’t go right, he asked people who had big hands on this issue to explain and resolve those problems.

In return, he was warned with a yellow card. Following the card, he was given two red cards in a row, which was UNJUSTIFIABLE. What was even worse is that the main referee decided to exercise his power to award 2 points to the Japanese team. At the end of the day, the Thai Coach never ever got any explanation about the new system that did not appear to always work properly and thus intervened his tactics. What’s more, the main referee gave 2 inglorious points to the Japanese team in the absolutely critical moment of the game!!!!!!!!!

This game was not decided by both of the teams themselves. Instead, it was decided by the one who didn’t exercise his judgment appropriately. It is clear that the referee take side with the Japanese team. With his prejudice and subjectivity, he is going to send the Japanese team to Rio. What a ticket to cherish!

Justice shall be served. (Legal) action shall be solemnly taken against corruption of any kind!

There was no violation. Just like when you step on the centre line. Your whole foot or hand needs to pass the line.

Shame on all of you thinking that referees take sides. Just because the games are hosted in jp doesn’t mean the referees will take your side. Do you know how many international games are hosted in JP? almost 70% of it. If they take sides every time, then jp should win something all the time right?! Sports is not about the players only. Coach is the main part as well. Thai coach is known for being dramatic and any of you really follow international vball you should know this. He deserved 2 red cards. He was disrepectful to the main ref, just like all of you saying the ref made a mistake. The fact is he DID NOT. Japanese stayed calm and respectful. They shouldn’t feel ashamed just because thai coach freaked out and caused the team to freak out. If you really follow intl vball u know japan is a better team anyway. Those girls did a great job. They deserve to go to the Olympics. They got bronze last time. REMEMBER?!

@Peter You’re only half right. IT IS A LINE INFRINGEMENT IF IT INTEREFERES WITH THE PLAY, regardless of whether it is the foot or hand. She is clearly way under the net and preventing the middle blocker from side shifting to block. Maybe the Thai player should’ve just broken her hand to teach her a lesson? Right. Before you go and point fingers, learn the game.

Re: @Peter
Peter, you say that the Japanese remained calm and respectful. How hard is it to remain calm and respectful when all of your substitutions are granted? If you’re the volleyball expert, please tell us all why the Thai substitutions were denied, especially when there is a rule in place that accounts for technical issues w/ the tablets. Under that rule, if there is a malfunction with the tablets/technology, the Thai substitutions should have been allowed to proceed under the ‘old’ system. The manual system where the player reports to the sideline and notifies the scorer’s table they are substituting and the number of the jersey of the player they will replace.
When this wasn’t allowed, was the Thai coach supposed to just continue with the team he had on the floor? He would not be able to get back to his best back row/front row lineup for an entire rotation. How big of a lead is 5 points @ 12-7 when the two teams are obviously very evenly matched, AND the Thai team was not allowed to put their best combination on the floor? I believe that if Japan was denied a substitution FOR ANY REASON, 3 points from winning the match, their coach would have argued with the referee as well, until he received an explanation. If he didn’t, then he is not a coach i would want to play for.
Considering the circumstances, and lack of explanation that the Thai coach received AND the yellow card, and red cards AND points that were penalized, i thought the Thai coach kept his composure very well.
I believe the two referees are responsible for this entire controversy. The Second Referee should have made sure that the Head Referee understood what the problem was with the Thai substitutions. The head referee then should have mandated the manual substitution process be used, and in this particular situation, should have given every opportunity for the Thai coach to make his substitutions before he penalized them with points. He should have communicated better with his partner referee and this likely would not have happened. I believe this is the reason that FIVB has never made an announcement explaining the referee’s rulings. If the referees were not in error, FIVB would have explained what happened in detail, and not published their report that simply blamed the Thai coach and team for basically choking.
I would like to see any more recent FIVB announcements regarding this match.

You are showing your clear bias anyway.

Since Japan usually hosts the important tournaments, it has an ‘exorbitant’ privilege to participate in all the events it host. Obviously, its rank in the ranking table is high most of the time. It has even surpassed Russia and China. However, China and Russia are undoubtedly better teams than the Japanese team. What is the reason you might claim for the Japanese team having overtaken Russia, China or Italy in the ranking table. You cannot cite the statement that the Japanese team is typically better given the fact that you are talking about the Russian and Chinese team. You can possibly consider the historical record of the matches between the Japanese team vs those top teams the Japanese has been ranked above. You see? Your argument is not totally right.

Had you have a chance to watch the match and consider the situation objectively, the Thai team was better on that day with true sportsmanship and spirit of the FAIR PLAY. You could not generalize anything because it used to be. That’s a lame argument.

@Unbelievable
I am not saying japan is better than china or Russian. I never once said that. I am also not talking about the world ranking. The ranking is based on point system and does not reflect accurately you are right. It also changes all time. BUT It has nothing to do with what I said. Historically jp has always been a stronger team over thai. World ranking wise and actually ability wise. Again I did not mention world ranking and I did not say jp is better than china or Russian. YOU said it.
I am merely discussing thai and jp. YOU brought up china and Russia. And everyone is biased. If you like a team better, you are biased. As sportsmanship wise, thai coach showed none. Period. Yea maybe jp has some ‘exorbitant’ special treatment to enter, they probably don’t need that anyway. They have always qualified to enter most of main games. Just because you can enter, doesn’t mean you can win. And jp has won some. Don’t disrepect a team based on what other people said. You were not there. You dont know what happened. If you play sports you know referees make judgement calls all the time. they host the best world class volleyball competiton and you think they got some special treatment because of that. Sure I guess. Tough life. Playing in a pro setting is not about winning all the time. It’s also about coming back up when you are down. JP is known for that. Sadly thai players didn’t lose the game. Thai coach did. BTW if they had special treatment, they should have won all the challenge calls since you know, they mess with the tech.

@Peter

You did mention the bronze medal the Japanese team got at the London Olympics! And, you implicitly used that statement to underestimate the performance of the Thailand team in the ongoing tournament. That was not quite right! If only you had criticized the situation objectively!

I cross my heart and hope to die. I did watch the match between Japan and Thailand. And, what I objectively perceived is that the main referee’s will was literally against Thailand, especially in the crucial moment of the game. The referee even attempted to make his own challengeS to determine whether Thai players had made violations and this turned out that there were no violations. How ridiculous! Subjective, judgmental calls were not appropriate by all means. The referee must be objective when he or she has to exercise some judgments, so that every point awarded can be trusted as TRANSPARENT. He should not have made two bad calls in a row. That’s tremendously disappointing!

Japan could not win every challenge because people from all over the world can see it on the screens as well! Japan might go crazy if it were to fabricate the outcome of its team challenge to favor itself! Many volleyball fans, including me, are watching this case closely. And, I hope that right action shall be taken to prevent any volleyball match from infamous scandals, like this one!

I truly adore the Thai team that played the match with their heart out! I hope no-one will no longer take advantage of this Thai team.

Asking for help May 20, 2016 - 8:51 am

Hi Peter,

Im the one with the post for petition. Untill now i d like to point this out to you and all the people who read this article.

1. The electronics system that we use, it s a new one . It s first time ever apply here. How does it works ?

Well, first Thai coach send request to Japanese staffs. Then Japanese staff accept request and forward to referee table. Had they not accept the request will not show.

And that was what happen. Our request of challenge, changing players are not show.

Think about it, for challenge the signal need to appear within 5 seconds at the ref table. Had Japanese staff delay to send our requests for 3 seconds then we d done for. And that what happened, the request for chalenges came table after 5 seconds thus we cant challenge.

Im not saying that Japanese staffs try to delay it. It unprovable at this point i think. But why? Why the request need to go through 3rd party before sending to ref table. Why it cant go directly there. Why Japanese can take controll of all our request wheather time out, challenge or changing players.

2. Toward 5th set we try to change players and again same things happen. No reqests come in at ref table. We prepare to changes by holding the sign, like a traditional way. Yet the ref refuse and refuse and refuse us to change.

By FIVB rules , it state very clear that once the devices is out of order, the system will automatically change toward the traditional way. We do everything correct yet ref dont allow us to do anythings. Ofcourse when we protest we got red cards and award point to Japan.

3. There s no Jury appear on that day.

Usually when things got out of hands there will be jury who come in and controll the situation. That jury is italian guy and he was not present that day. For no reason.

I think to say Japanese was cheating is might be over react, since we still dont have definite prove in arguement 1. But we definitle have prove for arguement 2 and 3.

And reat assure, thai people. This will not end untill we get justice. We have already prepare to send the request to FIVB and IOC to investigate this incident. And we will not back off. Enough is enough, if we have to fly to FIVB head quater to hold a sign and protest in front of the building we will.

This will not go quiet, you can be sure of that. And the Japanses staff also need to be investigate as well. Also all the ‘others’ small incident that happen on that day that i cant wrote it here as we collecting prove.

Hope this make people understand more of the situation that happen. And pardon my English and grammatical as this s not my mother language.

Regards

@Asking for help

Thank you very much. Now the problem is obvious.
As a Japanese volleyball watcher here, this match wasn’t a good game due to many bashings from people including non volleyball fans.
But now the problem seems to be clearer that it is not about Japanese team defeating over Thai team while Thai team played better on that particular match. Nor it is not about Japanese tend to host important tournaments throughout the history. Nor it is not about the displaying World ranking table on the screen. Nor it is not about assuming Japanese corrupted to buy a victory without any evidences.
It is about the sportsmanship and ethic of the referee who made multiple wrong judgements which caused the horrible ending for Thai team as a consequence.
We also would like to request to the FIVB headquarter for the massive improvements of the quality of judges and robustness of tablet software, to avoid this kind of incidents.

I can’t understand why @unbelievable is so confused, redundant and irrelevant of the points we are talking about. It s totally useless and misleading to talk about how great JAPAN is and was in volleyball. The focus is clearly on the current scandal on the match between Thailand and Japan. If there were to be any investigation, the FIVB should focus on technological issue, disrespectful manner of the players and coach, and referee judgement. My advice is for next argument is don’t be so proud of your victory robbery so much that you lost focus on what is actually being talked about.
