One of the most talented Cuban volleyball players and for sure one of the best players in the world, Melissa Vargas, became a new member of Volero ZURICH!
“I have signed a multiyear contract with Volero Zurich. I am thankful that I have been given the opportunity to practice with the best training staff and improve by a top-level club” said the 18-year-old Melissa in an exclusive interview for WorldofVolley.
Is it true that you will go on loan to some Russian team and play there until the end of 2017/2018?
“For the time being, I am not sure who will I join until the end of the season. I have signed the contract with Volero and we will see.”
Do you have any league where you will like to play in the future?
“My goal is to play in a competitive league where will be able to improve my skill. As a young player, I desire most to have a top level, strong matches which will help me to become a better player.”
In 2015 Melissa signed her first professional contract with VK Prostějov. She competed in the Czech national championship and CEV Champions League and then she suffered a shoulder injury. She underwent the surgery at the end of 2016.
How is your shoulder now?
“Thank you for asking. Now that I have completed medical treatment and recovery I am ready to continue my volleyball career.”
These days, many media have talked about her problems with the Cuban National Federation who banned her to compete in the next 4 years.
Are you sorry that you will not play at the World Championship 2018?
“I have no regrets. I learned always to look forward and not to turn to past. I have my goals and I am prepared to work hard to make it real”
And what is your goal?
“I wish to have excellent practice, play well and become the best opposite in the world,” explained Vargas to WoV.
