RIO 2016 W: USA claim 1st spot in Group B!

USA defeated China in the final round of the group stage and claimed the 1st spot in Group B!

USA will enter the knockout stage at the Rio 2016 women’s volleyball tournament as the 1st placed team in Group B and they will face either Japan or Argentina in the quarterfinals.

At the same time, China finished the group stage at the 4th place and they will face either Brazil or Russia in the quarterfinals.

Speaking about Group B, Netherlands are at the 2nd place, while Serbia are at the 3rd place. They will find out their rivals in the quarterfinals after the last game in Group A when the official draw will be held.

* The first ranked teams of both pools will play against the fourth ranked teams of the other pool. The second ranked teams will face the second or third ranked teams of the other pool, determined by drawing of lots. The drawing of lots will be held after the last match in the preliminary round.

USA – China 3:1 (22:25, 25:17, 25:19, 25:19)

USA: Larson 18, Akinradewo 15, Murphy 13, Robinson 13, Harmotto 6, Hill 5, Glass 2, Adams 2, Lowe 1, Banwarth, Thompson, Lloyd.

China: Zhu Ting 23, Hui 14, Yuan 7, Zhang 7, Gong 3, Yan 3, Xu 2, Ding 2, Liu 1, Yang, Wei, Lin.  

Group B: USA 5-0 (14 points), Netherlands 4-1 (11 points), Serbia 3-2 (10 points), China 2-3 (7 points), Italy 1-4 (3 points), Puerto Rico 0-5 (0 points).
