Italy’s volleyball hopes have been dealt a major setback after strating outside hitter Daniele Lavia suffered a serious injury to his right hand during training in Verona.
According to the Italian Volleyball Federation, Lavia sustained a crush trauma to his fourth and fifth fingers following an accidental fall. Immediate medical attention was provided by the national team’s staff, and detailed examinations revealed complex fractures with tissue damage. Lavia underwent urgent surgery at Borgo Trento Hospital. While the procedure was successful, he now faces several weeks of recovery.
This unfortunate injury means Lavia will miss the upcoming World Championship in the Philippines, a huge blow to Italy’s campaign. His absence also raises concerns for his club, Itas Trentino, just weeks before the start of their domestic season.
