The FIVB World League will add a new venue to its list this weekend when Lomas de Zamora plays host to the world’s most important annual men’s volleyball competition with two Argentina-Japan matches.

Lomas de Zamora’s local team, Lomas Vóley, had the highest attendance for matches in the Argentine League with packed stands game after game. Such is its love of volleyball, the FIVB World Grand Prix will also land in Lomas de Zamora in August.

In the World League, Argentina and Japan have only faced each other four times – all in 1997 – with the South Americans prevailing every time. Argentina also won on their last showdown, a nail-biting 3-2 win at the2011 FIVB World Cup in Japan.

To give some players a rest, coach Julio Velasco has chosen setter Demián González and talented middle-blocker Sebastián Solé to replace Luciano De Cecco and Pablo Crer.
