Although they were on the very verge of elimination, losing 2-0 and 14-9 in the third set, the Iranians achieved a spectacular turnaround and moved to semifinals where they will meet Poland who smashed China in straight sets.
Iranian captain Rasoul Aghchehli performed a match-high 25 points. The captain of Italy, Gianluca Galassi, finished as the top scorer of his team with 15 points.
The other semifinal clash is between Russia who demonstrated force against USA and home team of Argentina who beat their eternal rivals, Brazil.
The Argentine opposite Manuel Balague had amazing game with 18 points. Brazil was led by spiker/receiver Daniel Martins de Pinho with 19 points.
