Korea beat the reigning champions Japan in five sets, partially 20-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-23 and 16-14 in a decider for the top spot in Pool F of the Top 8 at the 2019 Asian Championship. Thus, the team coached by Im Do-Hun kept the perfect record in the tournament. At the end of the two stages prior to the quarter-finals, Korea have a 6-0 overall record, which is actually a 5-0 knowing that their win against Pakistan in the Preliminary Round was counted for the Top 8. The winning side was led by Kwak Seung-Suk and Im Dong-Hyeok. Both scored 19 points. Shin Yung-Suk made 4 kill blocks. Yuji Nishida scored 21 points for Japan, including 5 aces. Taishi Onodera made 4 kill blocks.

By beating Pakistan with a 3-2, the National Team of Chinese Taipei claimed third place in this pool.

Australia recovered from a set down against China to secure No.1 in Pool E: 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22). Just like Korea, the “Volleyroos” remained an undefeated side after two stages and will face No.4 from Pool F in the quarter-finals, which is Pakistan. Thomas Edgar shined for Australia once again, pouring in 22 points, half of them in the first set! Rao Shuhan scored 12 for China.

This outcome squeezed out hosts Iran, who swept India in the last round, to the No.2 in the pool.
