Iran smashed Korea’s long-awaited Olympic dream (didn’t feature since the 2000 Sydney Games) with a 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 15-13) win in the semifinal clash of the 2020 Asian Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament. Ali Shafiei put down 17 points, including 6 kill blocks, for Iran. Jeon Kwang-In from the Korea National Team scored game-high 25 points.
In the second semifinal, China remained in contention for the Olympic visa with a 4-set victory over Qatar. Jiang Chuan was the most prominent player of the match for the hosts, tallying 23 points. Brazilian-born Renan Ribeiro scored 13 for the losing side.
