The Korea National Team overpowered Chinese Taipei in the semifinals of the 2020 Asian Women’s Olympic Qualifier in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand: 3-1 (18-25, 25-9, 25-15, 25-14). The squad coached by Italian Stefano Lavarini has secured a win mostly thanks to blocking display (16 kill blocks) and did it without their best player Kim Yeon-Koung. The Korean captain was unable to play due to an abdominal muscle injury but cheered for her teammates from the bench. In Kim’s absence, Kim Hee-Jin (IBK IB) highlighted Korea with 18 points.
Lavarini said after the match that he doesn’t know if Kim will play the final or not: “I don’t think much about who can’t play. Kim’s situation is being handled by our team. The best lineup for tomorrow will be confirmed tomorrow.“
The hosts Thailand saw off Kazakhstan in the other semifinal in 4 sets.
