China and Japan continued their unbeaten run at the 19th Asian Games, securing victories over Vietnam and Thailand, respectively. However, all four teams had secured their spots in the semifinals a day before.
Japan avenged their recent 22nd Asian Senior Women’s Championship loss to Thailand by dominating them in straight sets, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23. The match took place in Pool F at the Deqing Sports Center Gymnasium, Hangzhou, China.
China showcased their strength against Vietnam, achieving a swift 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-13, 25-13, 25-11. This Pool E match occurred at the Hangzhou Normal University Cangqian Gymnasium.
In other matchups, Korea managed a dramatic win over DPR Korea in a four-set game (19-25, 25-21, 25-9, 25-20), while Chinese Taipei, powered by standout performances from Wu Fang-Yu and Chen Tzu-Ya, rallied to defeat Kazakhstan 3-1.
Following the exciting conclusion of the Top 8 matches, Japan will face Vietnam and Thailand will challenge hosts China in the upcoming semifinals.
Previously, after pool round-robin preliminaries, teams were divided into two main groups, leading to the Elite 8 round in Pool E and Pool F. The top two teams from each pool have now moved to the semifinals.
