HANGZHOU – China clinched a remarkable 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-21) victory over Japan in the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Women’s Volleyball Tournament final.
China, ranked sixth by FIVB World Ranking, maintained their Asian Games dominance, marking their ninth title win. Japan, on the other hand, continues a 45-year gold medal drought since their last victory in 1978.
Led by Yuan Xinyue, who contributed 18 points, the Chinese squad showcased an overpowering offense against their Japanese counterparts. Despite Japan’s spirited challenge, China dominated in kills (53 to 47) and had an upper hand in blocking (11 to 0).
In an earlier match, Thailand secured the bronze medal by defeating Vietnam in three sets (25-19, 25-23, 25-20). This marks Thailand’s second Asian Games bronze, replicating their success from the 2014 Incheon Games.
Thailand’s Pimpichaya Kokrum stood out with 20 points, leading her team to victory against Vietnam, who showcased a spirited comeback in the third set.
