A five-time consecutive Brazilian champions Cruzeiro were unrecognizable in Game 1 of the Superliga Cimed 2018-2019 best-of-five playoff semifinals against Taubaté and fell in front of the home crowd in four sets: partially 28-30, 19-25, 25-22 and 24-26. Cruzeiro players made as much as 46 errors today of which 29 in serving. Taubaté also started the encounter in a nervous manner but reduced the number of errors as the match progressed (30 in total). Ricardo Lucarelli top-scored for Taubaté with 21 points which were the same figures that Evandro Guerra put next to his name in the scoresheet.
The top seed SESI-SP prevailed against No.4 seed SESC-RJ in straight sets in the other semifinal Game 1 in which there were six Olympic champions on the court: William Arjona, Éder Carbonera, and Felipe Fonteles “Lipe” in SESI and Maurício Borges, Maurício Souza and Wallace Souza in SESC. Alan Souza and Felipe Fonteles “Lipe” were best scorers in the winning side with 12 points apiece. Maurício Borges noted 11 for SESC.

Last year was the same, the Sada Cruzeiro lost the first 2 games, then turned, went to the final and won the Superleague. Lucarelli played super good against his future team.
