Turning around the match from 0-2 to 3-2, Itambé Minas beat Sesc RJ Flamengo in the fourth round of the 2021/22 Brazilian Women’s Volleyball Championship and reached their fifth consecutive victory, no defeats.
Sesc Flamengo achieved spectacular comebacks in the first two sets, but failed to resist the team’s blocking display of Minas, losing the top match of the fourth round of the 2021/22 Women’s Superliga at home with a score of 2-3. The champions opened the first set with a four-point led and had an even greater advantage in the second set – eight points. However, Sesc Flamengo came back in both and got themselves the lead in sets of 2-0. But, from the third set onwards, Minas managed to block the players of the most-titled Superliga side more frequently, resulting in a full match turnaround.
The Belo Horizonte club set up 22 blocks, eight of which were the work of Thaísa Daher. Turkish Neriman Özsoy finished the encounter as the top scorer of her team with 22 points. Léia Silva had 73% reception (26 digs, one error, 46% excellent). Juciely Silva also made eight blocks, but for Sesc Flamengo. Dominican Yonkaira Peña scored 23 points on the losing side, while Maira Cipriano was outstanding in the reception with 92% (37%, one error, 59% excellent).
With the straight-set victory over Brasília Vôlei, in which Ana Carolina Silva ‘Carol’ scored 16 points (four blocks) and had 73% attack (11/15), Cláudia Bueno ‘Claudinha’ served four aces, and Dutch Anne Buijs made 72% reception (32 digs, one error, 53% excellent), Dentil Praia Clube continued to lead the competition, having five out of five and two points more than second-placed Minas with which they will face in the next round.
With great attacking performance from the U.S. opposite hitter Nia Reed (31 points), followed by four blocks of Adenízia Ferreira and 88% reception (17 digs, one error, 76% excellent) of Nyeme Nunes, Sesi Vôlei Bauru beat Barueri Volleyball Club 3-1 (28-26, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20) in the little ‘clássico paulista’ (the classic of the São Paulo state).
Sweeping Valinhos 3-0, Esporte Clube Pinheiros hit the third consecutive victory in the competition and remained third in the chart. Edinara Brancher top-scored the winning side with 19 points.
