Vôlei Funvic Natal, who’re having a poor campaign thus far in the 2021/22 Brazilian Men’s Volleyball Championship, ended the invincibility of Fiat/Gerdau/Minas in the competition.
The reigning champions Funvic put the unbeaten record of the leader Minas in the 2021/22 Men’s Superliga (Minas was the only team that hadn’t lost in the competition: 14-0) to an end in Round 16. After opening the match with 2 sets to 0, Funvic let vice-champions come to equal grounds with them but managed to win in the tie-break. With the result, Funvic added 2 points to their account and remained in the group of the Best-8 in the charts that deliver the pass to the playoffs. Cuban Luis Elián top-scored the winning side with 25 points. Thales Hoss made 91% reception (23 digs, 1 error, 57% excellent), while American Patrick Gasman made 77% attack (10/13).
Sada Cruzeiro took advantage of Minas’ failure to approach them by 5 points (43-38) in the charts. The Contagem side has swept Brasília Vôlei and recorded the 9th win in a row in all competitions (the 5th win in a row in Superliga).
Nevertheless, Cruzeiro have to watch their back, namely to keep a close eye on Sesi-SP, who also tend to claim the vice-leader position in the standings. The São Paulo-based club was confident agains Goiás Vôlei (3-0) and are 4 points behind Cruzeiro.
Apan/Eleva (Blumenau) are on a solid run as they achieved the 4th successive win, continuing their fight for No.4.
