The Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) confirmed that José Roberto Guimarães (Zé Roberto), a three-time Olympic champion, will serve as the technical coordinator for the Brazilian women’s volleyball national teams. With an eye on the 2024, 2028, and 2032 Olympics, Guimarães will focus on the strategic planning for both the senior and junior teams. It’s noteworthy that he will maintain his two-decade-long role as the head coach of the senior women’s team.

Earlier in September, another renowned figure in the volleyball community, Bernardinho, took up the mantle of technical coordinator for the men’s teams. The creation of this role seeks to enhance the synergy between the junior and senior squads. Jorge Bichara, CBV’s technical director, expressed, “With the appointments of these two stalwarts of world volleyball, our aim is to foster a collaborative approach for the upcoming three Olympic cycles.”

José Roberto Guimarães conveyed his enthusiasm for his new responsibility, emphasizing his longstanding bond with the grassroots level. He expressed his vision of not just grooming athletes but also nurturing them as responsible citizens. He accentuated the significance of continuous investment in nurturing emerging talents to ensure the national teams’ prowess on the global stage.
