In an exciting match between the continent’s best two teams, Brazil fought to a 3-1 victory (25-13, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22). As the gold, silver and bronze medallists, Brazil, Argentina and Chile all qualified to participate in the 2013 Youth Boys’ World Championship in Mexico.
Brazil played better from the start but Argentina found its momentum in the second set to battle back, trying to protect the title they won in 2008 in Brazil and defended in 2010 in Venezuela. Matías Sanchez and Brian Melgarejo were Argentina’s best players in a match where both teams already had qualified for the 2013 Youth Boys’ World Championship – their main goal for the competition – by winning their semifinal matches.
Chile, the host team, overcame Venezuela to win the bronze medal and the third South American berth at the world competition. Almost all of the participating teams have been decided – the only continental tournament still pending for the 2013 Youth World Championships is the South American Youth Girls’ Championship.
