The titleholders Zenit rejected all the efforts of Perugia players in the second leg of the semifinals to advance to the CEV Champions League final for the fifth time in a row.
“I am happy. I moved to Zenit Kazan for the sake of the Champions League and I really want to win this competition. The whole team played great. Not everything has worked out well for us this season, but in the semifinals with Perugia, we finally showed a top performance. We managed to play our game and I am so happy now,” the French outside hitter Earvin Ngapeth stated after the match.
“The game was very tense and hard, as expected. Every single point counted – one successful defense or block. I’m proud of my players who did so well with one of the strongest teams in the world. León is only part of the team, he can’t win alone,” Perugia head coach Lorenzo Bernardi gave some of the reasons for the elimination of his team.
The 2019 CEV Champions League Super Finals between Zenit and Lube is scheduled for May 18 at the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin with the timetable yet to be determined.
