Vice-champions Germany are through to quarter-finals of the 2019 EuroVolley.
The team coached by Andrea Giani outplayed co-hosts the Netherlands in four sets in front of the packed stand at the Omnisport hall in Apeldoorn (3,200 spectators). It was partially 25-17, 25-22, 30-32, 25-23. Thus, Germany prevented “Oranje“ to qualify for the top 8 even after 10 years.
Germany have finally had their star player György Grozer at his best. The opposite hitter struggled with a calf injury in the pool stage. He scored 20 points for his team, while Tobias Krick made 5 kill blocks and 83% attack (10/12). Nimir Abdel-Aziz poured in 29 points for the Dutch side.
Russia gave no chance to Greece to become the second team to advance to the quarter-finals. They also maintained the invincibility in the tournament (6-0).
In the match that took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the “Zbornaya“ ran over rivals in straight sets in only 71 minutes of a play, partially 25-16, 25-15 and 25-16.
