Serbia (No.1 in Pool B) progressed to the quarter-finals of the 2019 EuroVolley. The team coached by Slobodan Kovač beat the Czech Republic (No.4 in Pool D) in Antwerp (Belgium) by a 3-0 (31-29, 25-21, 25-18).

The Czechs proved to be a tricky opponent to heavy favorites and it turned out that the first set was decisive for the rest of the match. The Czechs failed to convert as much as four set points in it. In the continuation of the match, Serbia showed their actual strength.

Uroš Kovačević was Serbia’s top scorer today with 17 points. Marko Podraščanin made 5 kill blocks, while Srećko Lisinac served 4 aces. Donovan Džavoronok scored 18 points for the losing side and had 71% reception (31 digs, 35% excellent). Jan Hadrava served 4 aces.

France-vs-Finland

France (No.1 in Pool A) perfectly handled their eighth-final clash, defeating Finland (No.4 in Pool C) in three sets, partially 25-16, 25-23 and 25-21.

The “Les Bleus“ prevailed even without delivering their peak performance. Finland threatened most seriously in the second set when they got the lead of 15-11.

France had an amazing support at Parc des Expositions Hall XXL in Nantes by more than 7,000 spectators who were very loud and fiery. At the end of the third set, French players decided to repay them for their support. France head coach Laurent Tillie called a time-out at 24-20 so that he and his players can watch fans make so-called Mexican waves on the stands.

Stéphen Boyer top-scored for the winning side with 19 points. Urpo Sivula scored 11 for Finland. It was the sixth win in as many games for France at EuroVolley.
