France have progressed to the semifinals of the 2019 CEV European Men’s Volleyball Championship after demolishing Italy!

France-vs-Italy

Paris awaits the country’s male volleyball national team! France demolished Italy in the quarter-finals of the 2019 EuroVolley in front of 7,000 own fans at the packed Parc des Expositions Hall XXL in Nantes, who could not remain seated for most of the match, giving immense support to their players: 3-0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-14).

Italy failed to reach semifinals at the continental championship (which they won six times in their history) for the second consecutive time, the fourth time in the last 30 years. The finish of the second set turned to be decisive for the entire match. The “Azzurri” had three set points in their hands but squandered each of these three opportunities to tie the score in sets at 1-1.

Italy’s main attacking weapon Ivan Zaytsev shot blanks tonight. Even he himself certainly cannot remember when was the last time he remained in single digits when it comes to scoring (2 points). Zaytsev’s attack success rate was unbelievably poor as well (7%). Only one of his 14 kills was been converted into a point! And he played all three sets… The head coach Gianlorenzo Blengini even tried to wake him up by moving him to the outside hitter position in the second set, putting Gabriele Nelli to play as an opposite hitter. It did not help.

Stéphen Boyer was brutal for France. He tallied 25 points, including as much as 9 aces! Italy’s top scorer was Osmany Juantorena with 9 points.
