Uralochka-vs-Maritza
Although they share the top spot in the charts in the home league, which is considered one of the strongest championships in the world, Uralochka-NTMK Ekaterinburg were winless in the first two rounds of the Champions League – Pool E. Bulgarian Maritza Plovdiv became their first “victim” as Uralochka prevailed over them at home in an encounter valid for Round 3. Kseniia Parubets led eight-time European champions to success in the tie-break with 21 points. That was exactly how many points an American outside hitter Alexandra Holston scored for Maritza, while Viktoriya Grigorova made 5 kill blocks.
Romanian C.S.M. Volei Alba Blaj recorded their first win in the competition as well, beating Vasas Óbuda Budapest from Hungary by a 3-1 in Pool D.
