Even though they were weakened with the absence of the two starters, Cucine Lube Civitanova wrote down their second victory in Pool A of the 2020 Champions League. Besides the injured Iranian international Amir Ghafour, Lube head coach Ferdinando De Giorgi decided to begin the match against Turkish champions Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta Istanbul without Bruno Rezende. The Brazilian setter played only briefly in the second set. Fenerbahçe managed to exploit the weaknesses of Italian and world champions in the third set but weren’t competitive in the rest of the match: 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 20-25, 25-17). Cuban-born Yoandy Leal top-scored for Lube with 15 points (5 aces). The Dutchman Wouter Ter Maat delivered 13 points on the other side of the net.

Polish team Jastrzębski Węgiel easily prevailed over VC Greenyard Maaseik from Belgium in Pool C (3-0) to remain one of the two teams that didn’t concede a single set in the competition so far. The other one is also from Poland – Zaksa Kędzierzyn-Koźle, in Pool E.
