Lube remained undefeated in the 2020 Champions League after beating SuperLega rivals Trentino in a duel of the last 2 club world champions: 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-15). It was a postponed Round 1 match of Pool A, which couldn’t be held as scheduled (December 3-5) due to Lube’s participation in the 2019 FIVB Club World Championship.

Trentino was decimated by injuries as both starting outside hitters (Kovačević and Russell), as well as starting opposite hitter (Vettori) were sidelined. Actually, Vettori entered the court in 2 of the sets as a backup. Osmany Juantorena highlighted Lube with 19 points. Greek Mitar Tzourits scored 11 points for Trentino.

Trentino should be fine to advance in the top 3 2nd place positions for Champions League quarterfinals. Hopefully this rest will help them. That win in Milano was impressive. Lube continues to look great and Juantorena is still playing at a high level.

Something is not working well within Trentino this season. They have the same team as last year but no results. Lube is weaker than last year (Sokolov and Stankovic left) and yet they play better. Leal is playing more and Juantorena is a top-notch professional despite his age of 35, but still.
